Statement of Concern Regarding Chip Lake Logging Request for Proposals

AWA is concerned about a request for proposals (RFP) issued by Alberta Forestry that would grant a Commercial Timber Permit in Forest Management Units W01 and W02, including a significant amount of forests northwest of Chip Lake (west-central Alberta near Wildwood and Entwistle). AWA’s main concerns with this RFP are the following:

Destruction of important wildlife habitat

Lack of stakeholder and public consultation

Low stand level harvest retention requirements

No cumulative effects assessment in the area

Potential challenges with reforestation
