Towards a biodiversity policy for Alberta

April 1, 2015

Wild Lands Advocate article, April 2015, by Dr. Richard Schneider.

In 1995, Alberta became a signatory to the Canadian Biodiversity Strategy, establishing our commitment to the conservation of biodiversity. Despite this commitment, Alberta’s species and ecosystems are today substantially worse off than they were 20 years ago. What has gone wrong?

There is an urgent need to engage people with nature. All aspects of it. Not just the pretty bears and cute snakes. Also the realities of it, the death, struggles, and pain. Not only are people losing touch with nature, they are losing touch with the realities of nature.
