Better Outlook for the Latest Caribou Range Planning?

December 13, 2013

Wild Lands Advocate update, October 2013, by Carolyn Campbell. The Alberta government will be developing range plans for the Little Smoky, A La Peche, and Cold Lake Caribou populations. AWA will participate in an advisory board with the goal of achieving self-sustaining Caribou populations through habitat protection and restoration.

“The underlying cause of Alberta’s caribou decline is clear: the cumulative effects of habitat disturbance caused by forestry, energy development, and associated infrastructure.”

If I were asked to illustrate a scene of utter serenity and peace, I would choose a picture of a mother grizzly wandering across flower-covered slopes with two small cubs gamboling at her heels. This is truly a part of the deep tranquility that is the wilderness hallmark.
