Alberta’s $300 Million Pine Beetle Fight: Money Well Spent?

July 14, 2011

Alberta has spent $300 million over the past 6 years fighting pine beetles in the province. But is it working? AWA is concerned that “fighting” pine beetles could do more damage to forests than the beetles themselves. AWA believes that forest management in Alberta needs to focus on all of the values which healthy forests provide us – clean water, wildlife habitat, recreation – and not just timber production.

It is my belief that Non-profit organizations like the Alberta Wilderness Association provide a clear framework that creates opportunities for Albertans to actively participate in the protection of their provinces resources.
