AWA News Release: Door Remains Open for Hunting of Alberta’s Threatened Grizzlies

March 29, 2011

The future for Alberta’s grizzly bears, designated as threatened in 2010, remains uncertain while the threat of a continued spring hunt hangs over them. Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is calling for the hunt suspension to be extended: a five-year moratorium at the very minimum.

When citizens and their representatives in government fail to place a high value on wilderness as a resource in itself, then its disappearance – especially in reasonably accessible locations – is swift and certain.
