Alberta Wilderness Associations (AWA) and our partner organizations are hosting a bioblitz in Cypress Hills Provincial Park from June 6 to 8, 2025. Cypress Hills Provincial Park is a well-known and unique location. Containing forested uplands and grasslands, Cypress Hills is one of the few unglaciated areas of the great plains. Many rare and endangered species can be found in the park and surrounding grasslands; however, concerns have arisen about its degradation due to overuse of the land.

Our Goal

This event aims to collect information on the species that can be found in the park and record them using iNaturalist. We have invited expert biologists to participate in finding and identifying species.  We then plan to produce an updated report on the biodiversity of Cypress Hills, as well as attempt to confirm the state of its ecosystems. A report summarizing our finding will be published after the event, and will be publicly available online on our website.

Our Needs

We’re hoping to fundraise $10,000 for the event. The funds will help cover the costs of equipment, transportation, food, accommodations, permitting and more.
