Our Stewardship

Alberta Wilderness Association, as a member of the Stewards of Alberta’s Protected Areas Association (or SAPAA), stewards two protected areas in Alberta:

  • The Beehive Natural Area in the Livingstone-Porcupine region
  • The Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve in Kananaskis

SAPAA is a non-profit society intended to support the stewardship of Alberta’s many protected areas including provincial and wildland parks, wilderness areas, ecological reserves, natural areas and provincial recreation areas. Through stewardship, SAPAA aims to maintain or enhance the ecological integrity of protected areas and to promote those areas for the benefit of present and future generations.

Volunteer stewards welcome!

For those interested in helping AWA with our stewardship efforts under SAPAA, we are asking people visiting these areas to please complete the inspection form via the SAPAA website (https://sapaastewards.com/pa-visits-etc/site-inspection-form/). Once you’ve completed the form, please let us know by sending an email to awa@abwild.ca

The form allows visitors to provide feedback on the status and condition of a given protected area. To learn more about how to use the form, please watch this video:

Tips to complete the site inspection form:
