Joint ENGO Letter to ECCC Re: Request for Imminent Threat Assessment for Southern Mountain Caribou

December 17, 2024

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Northern Alberta, and Alberta Wilderness Association submitted a joint-letter to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) requesting that ECCC urgently develop and publish an updated Imminent Threat Assessment (ITA) for southern mountain caribou populations in west-central Alberta, and simultaneously initiate an ITA for the adjacent Little Smoky boreal caribou populations.

If I were asked to illustrate a scene of utter serenity and peace, I would choose a picture of a mother grizzly wandering across flower-covered slopes with two small cubs gamboling at her heels. This is truly a part of the deep tranquility that is the wilderness hallmark.
