Alberta’s Nature Strategy: Joint letter by AWA and Nature Canada

On Oct 7, AWA and Nature Canada sent a joint letter asking for Alberta’s support in protecting the province’s biodiversity. We welcomed Alberta’s decision to produce a made-in-Alberta Nature Strategy. We ask that the strategy reflects strong commitments to biodiversity, with clear, concrete goals and actions, and timelines for monitoring, reporting on, and achieving goals.

We also asked for:

Cumulative effects planning;

Increased habitat restoration;

Expanded protected areas;

Investment into creating and implementing species recovery plans;

Aligning biodiversity actions with the climate change crisis; and

Establishment of a Nature Advisory Committee.
