It was still winter. The calendar said April 1 but it really did feel like an April Fool’s joke to be out hunting for spring crocuses on such a cold, blustery day.

Luckily, our Executive Director Debborah Donnelly, botanist Karel Bergmann, and geologist Tako Koning were joined by a number of hardy souls determined to find evidence that spring was indeed on her way. The group learned much about the history of Nose Hill and many other interesting tidbits about this windswept hillside in the middle of the city.

The group’s persistence paid off as one eagle-eyed participant found the very first buds signaling the arrival of spring. A reminder for all of us to be patient. The cycle of the seasons keeps turning. May we find peace and reassurance in these rhythms and always stay connected to them, even here in the city.
