For Sale (again): Petroleum Leases to Endangered Caribou Habitat

September 3, 2014

Wild Lands Article, July 2014. Carolyn Campbell. Despite the reclassification of Alberta’s mountain caribou populations to Endangered status, Alberta auctioned new oil and gas leases within the caribou’s ranges in spring of 2014 with more leases being planned for auction as the year progresses. Continued development within the caribou’s range will threaten their populations unless changes are made to the current decision-making course.

With rare exception cattle ranchers have been the best of guardians of the land entrusted to them. May we continue to be conscientious caretakers of this precious resource and hand it on to another generation unspoiled.
