Amendments to the List of Species under SARA

February 5, 2014

AWA letter to Canadian Wildlife Service. Every year the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) recommends new species to be added to that list and in 2014, three species were recommended to be added to the threatened list (bull trout, bank swallow and Gibson’s big sand tiger beetle) and three to be added to the special concern list (American badger, western tiger salamander and greenish-white grasshopper). AWA offers comments on the proposed additions.

When citizens and their representatives in government fail to place a high value on wilderness as a resource in itself, then its disappearance – especially in reasonably accessible locations – is swift and certain.
