Logging to Supply Timber vs Logging to Supply Water: Is There a Difference?

August 9, 2013

Wild Lands Advocate article, April/May 2013, by Nigel Douglas. Current forest management practices in the South Eastern Slopes exploit the already limited timber resources while increasing water flows. This causes negative environmental effects and increases the potential for man-made flood disasters.

“We can indeed manipulate water volumes in rivers by the way we manage forests, whether or not we have the ability to do this safely is by no means clear.”

The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had the eyes to see.
