COSEWIC Recommends Emergency Order to List Three Bat Species as Endangered

February 3, 2012

News release from COSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) that their emergency assessment subcommittee has assessed three Canadian bat species, including Alberta’s most common bat, the Little Brown Myotis, as Endangered due to spreading White Nose Syndrome. COSEWIC recommended the federal Environment Minister issue an Emergency Order to list these wildlife species under the Species at Risk Act.

It is my belief that Non-profit organizations like the Alberta Wilderness Association provide a clear framework that creates opportunities for Albertans to actively participate in the protection of their provinces resources.
