Scientific Comment on Draft Caribou Recovery Strategy

February 1, 2012

The February 2012 submission by Scientific Advisors to the Boreal Caribou Science Management Committee of Environment Canada, in response to the federal draft recovery strategy for Canada’s boreal woodland caribou. The scientists state that boreal caribou are likely to become more at risk under the draft recovery strategy (p. 14), and that recovery of local populations is both biologically and technically feasible (p. 7).

A healthy relationship to the wilderness is not in the least incompatible with civilized living. Indeed, I believe it to be an indispensable condition thereof; that no man is truly civilized unless he is involved in and cares for the wilderness.
