GoA Revised Harvest Direction to West Fraser in Little Smoky-A La Peche Caribou Ranges

In August 2021, AWA objected to West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd.’s proposed logging plan along Moon Creek, adjacent to the Willmore Wilderness Area, because of the damaging impact we believe that plan would have on threatened woodland caribou and endangered Athabasca rainbow trout.
On November 9, 2021, the Alberta government amended the direction it had provided to West Fraser in 2018, to temporarily exclude an area of currently undisturbed caribou habitat in the Moon Creek proposal from consideration. This updated direction was released to the public January 13, 2022.
