CALSARA Outdoor Show

June 27, 2025

On June 14, AWA joined many others at the CALSARA (Calgary Search and Rescue Association) Outdoor Show. Situated just outside the Capitol Hill Community Association, and between other booths encouraging everything from guided hikes and participation in Scouts Canada to bobsledding and marathons, we prepared for a day of community engagement.

The forecast threated rain, but the day was bright and sunny, and many people from the nearby communities showed up, including several families with young children. Friendly faces, both new to AWA and those who had been members for years, came to say hello and to sign our petitions: protesting the recent allowance of coal mining and decisions on wildlife management.

Events like this allow us to not only speak with the people of these communities, but also to talk to those we might not normally reach. Of those we spoke to, most supported our work and decisions, and were interested in our hikes and events, but were not aware of AWA, showing why it is important that we reach out to our communities.
