Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is deeply concerned by the further changes to the province’s hunting regulations made this summer without wide public notice.

Changes include:

  • Allowing dogs to help hunt black bears.
  • Wasting meat for double-crested cormorants.
  • Expanding hunting seasons for elk and black bear.
  • Lowering the minimum age to hunt big game to 10 years old.

AWA wrote to the Minister of Forestry and Parks to voice these concerns and to request a meeting. We emphasize that, as previously, these changes were made without public consultation and with little scientific evidence.
