What could be better than spending a sunny day hiking in the mountains? The participants who had gathered in the morning felt the same way. Together we drove through the forest and along the Ghost River until we reached our destination at the foot of Hussey’s Hill.

From there we marched up a horse trail, which runs through a sparse spruce forest, with Heinz Unger at the top of the group. Now and again, the silhouette of the surrounding mountains could be seen peeking through the trees. After a slight climb and some information about the visible riverbed of Ghost River, we reached a beautiful aspen forest. We took a break at Hussey’s hut and strengthened ourselves for the imminent climb to the top of Hussey’s Hill. On our way to the top, we walked along a beautiful scenery of blooming flowers and rustlings aspens. Our efforts were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Ghost River and the surrounding mountains at the top.

After a short break at the top, it was time for the descent. At a brisk pace, we made our way back to where we started our way to the top. From there, we took the same route back to the cars. Slightly tired but still in a good mood, a day full of adventure and wonderful impressions came to an end.

When citizens and their representatives in government fail to place a high value on wilderness as a resource in itself, then its disappearance – especially in reasonably accessible locations – is swift and certain.
