General tips for AWA hiking program:

The aim of our hiking program is to introduce you to the unique features of our public land throughout Alberta.  Most often you will find we focus on conservation issues that are important to the area. We hope to help you learn about the history of our work in the area, the difficulties there may be attaining protection and the importance of the area in terms of the lands, the wildlife, the biodiversity and more.

Please know that AWA accepts no responsibility for your travel to the trailhead or for you as an individual signing up for a day hike with AWA.  We endeavour to provide a safe day with qualified interpreters.  The areas we cover do not always have trails and are not always easily accessible.  You must accept responsibility for proper footwear and clothing to match the hike and the weather.  If a hike leader is concerned about your ability or preparedness, AWA reserves the right to ask you to stay back and not join the day hike program.

Please look up travel distances to starting points before you sign up for a hike.  The internet has a number of tools and sites (e.g., Google Maps) that will provide the distance from your starting point to the destination to give you a good idea of the travel required to reach the trailhead. All personal items including food and drink, sun block, binoculars, field guides are your responsibility.

The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had the eyes to see.
