It’s Pollinator week in Okotoks! Join the Town of Okotoks and AWA for a wander along the Sheep River to discover the myriad of pollinators hiding right under your nose in town. Did you know that Okotoks is designated as a “Bee City”? Find out what that means and what Okotoks is doing to support pollinators. AWA Conservation Specialist Kennedy Halvorson and Okotoks Conservation Educator Avery Kaszas will share theier knowledge about all that buzzes, flutters and crawls.

Kennedy Halvorson completed her graduate degree in environmental studies focused on native plant and pollinator conservation. She has since worked on projects such as Food Policy for Canada and Finding Flowers at York University. More recently, she helped develop a nationwide bumble bee pathogen sampling protocol for Environment and Climate Change Canada. Pollinators, ecological education, environmental policy, and sustainable landscapes are focal areas she is most interested in, and she draws inspiration for her work from all the passionate, dedicated, and diverse individuals that make up the conservation community.

Avery Kaszas is a Conservation Educator for the Town of Okotoks, with a background in Renewable Resource Management from Lethbridge Polytechnic. Her work centers on environmental education and community engagement, with a focus on biodiversity and native habitat restoration – areas she has been passionate about since her studies. Avery’s experience includes developing and leading educational programs on pollinators, climate change, and fostering meaningful connections with the natural world for audiences of all ages
