AWA Annual Lecture with Richard Thomas: If You’re Not Outraged, You’re Not Paying Attention

Richard Thomas, a longtime Alberta environmentalist, has spent many years defending several of Alberta’s boreal treasures, including the Primrose-Lakeland, and the McClelland Lake Wetland Complex. Leaving Alberta for Newfoundland, Richard found success in securing the designation of the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

AWA’s 2022 Martha Kostuch Annual Lecture will feature Richard, who will reflect on his lifetime’s work, examining and comparing his experiences in Alberta and Newfoundland. Please join us at AWA’s Hillhurst Cottage School as we honour Richard and Mary Kettenbach, another Alberta environmentalist who has spent a lifetime battling for the health of our grasslands, with the presentation of AWA’s prestigious Wilderness and Wildlife Defenders Awards. We will also be honouring Tako Koning with AWA’s Great Grey Owl Award for his outstanding and tireless support and volunteerism for AWA.

For those who are unable to join us in person, we will also be sharing the evening’s presentations over Zoom: registrants will be sent a link to the Zoom event for the lecture.

Date: November 18, 2022
Time: Reception at 5:30pm, Lecture and Awards at 6pm
Price:

  • $75 to attend the lecture in person, with an opportunity to meet award winners in person and enjoy refreshments. However seats are very limited so be sure to register early if you wish to attend in person.
  • Free to watch over video conference: if you wish to attend virtually (Zoom), you must register. There is no fee, but your donation in honour of our award winners: Richard Thomas, Mary Kettenbach or Tako Koning, will be greatly appreciated.

It is my belief that Non-profit organizations like the Alberta Wilderness Association provide a clear framework that creates opportunities for Albertans to actively participate in the protection of their provinces resources.
