Adventure for Wilderness – Aura Creek to Horse Lake

October 5, 2024, 1 p.m.
Ghost PLUZ (Near Waiparous)
12 km, Difficulty: medium (off-trail travel required)

See first-hand what a winter of logging does to an ecosystem, plus enjoy some healthy and beautiful riparian areas on an afternoon of learning and adventure in a landscape bathed in the ochre tones of autumn.

We will travel through some old cutblocks, as well as one that was just cut last winter. Then we will find some really beautiful aspen country, made even more special with the fall colours. We cross the unique ecosystem of the sand hills to arrive at Horse Lake, and a large wetland and beaver complex.

Come experience the Ghost, a place that often suffers from the cumulative effects of logging and unregulated OHV use, and is often dismissed by hikers and low-impact recreationalists. This is a chance to enjoy the beauty of a hidden gem and see first-hand how timber companies treat the land.  We will discuss the importance of protecting these spots and what needs to change to safe-guard our Eastern Slopes and the water and wildlife they hold.

Details of meeting place will be emailed to registered participants a few days before the event.
