Climb for Wilderness

Climb for Wilderness is Alberta Wilderness Association’s annual Earth Day event.

The goal of the Climb for Wilderness is to increase public awareness of wilderness, wildlife and wild water in Alberta combined with the athletic challenges of climbing 1,204 stairs and supporting AWA with fundraising. The event attracts participants from aged 2 to 102 years old, with a diverse range of athletic ability. Climb for Wilderness is known as the Best Earth Day Event in western Canada and attracts more than 1000 individual participants and 150 volunteers annually.

We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in. For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.
