Battle Lines Drawn Over New Cheviot Mine Proposal

Enviroline article, December 2002, by Mark Lowey. A revised plan for the controversial Cheviot coal mine near Jasper National Park has run into strong opposition and a lengthy list from regulators seeking more and better information.

We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in. For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.
