Alberta environmental organizations will be holding a Grizzly Bear News Conference, at 10:00 a.m., Monday September 19 2011. The groups will make a bold new call for major changes in land management in Alberta to restore habitat for the province’s threatened Grizzly Bears.

Background:
• Alberta’s grizzly recovery process began in 2001, when government scientists first raised the alarm.
• A temporary ban on hunting has been in place since 2006.
• The province’s Grizzly Bear Recovery Plan was published in 2008.
• Grizzlies were designated a threatened species in Alberta in 2010, but no measures to protect grizzly habitat have resulted.
