Join us for this three-day backpacking trip into the spectacular Front Range Canyons of the Castle region. For more than three decades, AWA has worked towards better protection of this wonderful wilderness region just north of Waterton National Park.
From a base near Bovin Lake, we will head up to Loaf Mountain. At 8642 feet, Loaf Mountain is the second highest peak in the Castle area, presenting breath-taking views west to the mountains and east across the sweeping prairies.
Reg Ernst has traveled the Castle area on foot and on horseback for many years. An expert botanist, he is inti-mately familiar with the area and is an excellent person to interpret the natural history of this beautiful area.
No experience is necessary. The hike to base camp will be moderate.
