General information relating to leaving bequests with AWA

Leaving a Wilderness Legacy

Giving to Alberta Wilderness Association through your will reflects the values you hold by making a difference to wildlife and wilderness in Alberta.  Alberta has some of the most pristine wilderness and alluring natural areas in the world. Not everyone appreciates the importance of this wilderness heritage for our own health and the health of the world. Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is dedicated to ensuring that this heritage will be a legacy inherited by future generations.

After providing for your loved ones, we invite you to leave a gift to Alberta Wilderness Association in your will.

A gift in your will enables you to:

  • Make a donation to AWA without affecting your current standard of living
  • Eliminate significant taxes payable by your estate in the year of death

You can identify a specific amount, or make a “residual bequest” where Alberta Wilderness Association receives the remainder of the estate after you have provided for loved ones. There are many ways of making bequests and your financial advisor or lawyer will be able to provide guidance on your options.

Contributions can be directed to a particular area of interest or left to the discretion of AWA.

AWA’s charitable business number is 11878 1251 RR0001 and this number as well as our full name and address should be included when making a bequest.

Alberta Wilderness and Wildlife Trust Fund

A lifetime donation or a bequest may be made to the Alberta Wilderness and Wildlife Trust Endowment at the Calgary Foundation to support the long-term sustainability of AWA. The fund was initiated in 1986 as a memorial tribute to Orval Pall. All such contributions are invested in perpetuity with the proceeds from the investments being used to support AWA. Throughout the years the fund has slowly been added to with small gifts from friends of AWA, family members remembering loved ones and others who believe in the need for this legacy. In 2012 the fund balance is just over $20,000.
All donors receive charitable tax receipts.
