Opposition to this development, entirely inappropriate in such an important National Park, has been
extensive.
Parks Canada is now providing limited opportunity for the public to comment on one aspect of the development. Despite the fact that the consultation period is very restricted (closing date for comments is December 16, 2011) it is important that they hear from those people who believe that this proposal should be rejected immediately.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>ndouglas</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>Front Page News</dc:subject> <dc:subject>2011 Action Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>National Parks Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Action Alert</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:date>2012-01-05T18:50:04Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Report</dc:type> </item>

Now is the time to maintain this drive!

The fact that areas of the Castle are scheduled for imminent clearcut logging, despite extensive local and provincial opposition, makes the issue particularly urgent.
Premier Redford has already heard from a "high volume" of callers, asking for a halt to the logging and new protection for the Castle. So the timing is crucial for people to contact the premier as soon as possible.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>ndouglas</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>Front Page News</dc:subject> <dc:subject>2011 Action Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Castle Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Action Alert</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:date>2012-01-05T18:50:42Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Report</dc:type> </item>

A couple of examples – protection for the Castle, and the notorious proposed “Potatogate” public land sale – will be an early test of Premier Redford’s renewed commitment to “transparency and accountability.” </description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>ndouglas</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>Front Page News</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Public Lands Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>2011 Action Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Castle Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Action Alert</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:date>2012-01-05T18:50:47Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Report</dc:type> </item>

plans in Alberta, so it’s important to get this one right. This plan is for the
Lower Athabasca region in northeastern Alberta, where most current tar
sands development has occurred and will occur. The draft plan is still taking
a hands-off approach to managing land-based impacts of this intensive
development.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>ndouglas</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>Front Page News</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Public Lands Archive</dc:subject> <dc:subject>2011 Action Alerts Archive</dc:subject> <dc:date>2011-06-01T17:07:27Z</dc:date> <dc:type>File</dc:type> </item>

Public input may be invited on where the route will go: but whether or not the line is needed in the first place, and what the alternatives are, has never been publicly discussed. It needs to be.
