2012-05-14 AWA Wilderness & Wildlife Defenders: Federal Budget Will Weaken Canada’s Most Important Environmental Laws
-
In its April 26, 2012 proposed budget, the federal government has included many changes to significantly weaken Canada’s most important environmental laws. Please raise your voice as a concerned Albertan and Canadian: support responsible environmental management by writing the Prime Minister and your MP. We all need to let our representatives know that bundling non-budgetary changes into a budget, and the substantial weakening of Canada’s environmental laws, is not acceptable.

2012-04-23 South Saskatchewan Advisory Council Recommendations: Closing Date for Comments Approaches
-
In all of the hoopla over a provincial election, please don't forget to make
your comments on the South Saskatchewan land-use plan!
The closing date for comments on the recommendations of the South
Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council is April 30 and, although
the promised public meetings have not yet taken place, we still encourage
people to make their comments before the deadline. Though the fate of the
Land-Use Framework and its regional plans remains unclear, this is still an
important opportunity to have a say.

2012-02-17 AWA Wilderness & Wildlife Defenders: Canadians Can Stop Massive Wolf Kill
-
The deadline for Canadians to comment on the federal government’s massive wolf-kill caribou recovery strategy is February 22, 2012. For most Alberta boreal woodland caribou herds, the wolf-kill strategy would allow 95% of their habitat to be destroyed. Tar sands and other oil-gas activities in those herds’ ranges would not be disturbed. Please write Environment Minister Peter Kent and ask him to protect habitat that woodland caribou require for long-term survival and recovery, rather than encouraging decades-long killing of many thousands of wolves.

-
Public opposition to ill-planned clearcut logging programs in southern Alberta’s sensitive forests is steadily growing. Now is the time to increase the pressure on the Alberta government to listen to Albertans and to start bringing in sweeping changes to the way our forest are managed.
Please consider these three options for adding your voice to the growing groundswell.

2012-01-18 AWA Wilderness & Wildlife Defenders: Federal Minister Fails to Protect Sage-Grouse

At this very moment, logging machinery is beginning to move into the Castle, in preparation for the clearcutting of 120 hectares of forest. But there is still a chance for a last minute reprieve.
